On Saturday 20 January 2010 we managed to get a good picture of “Wagter” the crocodile. Wagter is spotted on a regular basis by guides, usually on a rock bank on the side of the river jsut befor a rapid called Lion’s Rock.

According to Anthony Wostenholm (Crocodile Expert and Crocodile Farmer) these crocks live on fish. They also have to get out of the river on a daily basis to regulate their body temperature. They are also terretorial and like to stick to a certain pool.

Normally when we get close to a crocodile to take a picture they shoot off into the water, this one gave us time to take a picture and would go back into the water.

Important – crocodiles are potentially dangerous animals. Don’t swim in a river in mpumalanga before you made sure from local knowledge about crocodiles and hippos.
