The first container with USA made Fluid kayaks is on its way to SA at last. As most of you probably know by now, we had some issues with setting up production in the USA, and as a result the shipment got delayed. Well the container is about to leave now, and should be here in SA by end October / early November.

Many paddlers have sort of booked kayaks from the container already, but only some have paid deposits so far. We will need deposits (50% or retail price) to confirm orders. First come first served, so place your order with your local dealer ASAP. These boats are going to move very quickly, there is no doubt about that.

At this stage, the following kayaks are still available from this shipment:

Mango

Orange

Red

Blue

Green

Below are the prices for the boats, all including VAT (blem boats are 10% less):

Dope (playboat) R 6,840
Bazooka (creekboat) R 6,954
DO IT NOW (White water Sit-on-top) R 5,472
ANVIL (Hydrospeed) R 1,915

Descriptions of these boats can be found on the Fluid website, www.fluidkayaks.com. For those who don’t know it yet, the Dope replaces the Nemesis and the Bazooka replaces the Solo. Both these models have received extremely good reviews already. The Bazooka is the reason paddlers like Steve Fisher and Shane Raw are now on the Fluid team, which gives an indication of how good it is. The Dope already made a name for itself as a freestyle kayak that can hold its own against the latest crop of playboats from our main competitors. The Do It Now is a revolutionary whitewater sit-on-top, check http://www.fluidkayaks.com/fluidkayaks.com/w_doitnow.htm for more info.

A note on sizing: The Dope sizes are very similar to the Nemesis sizes, but slightly smaller in all three sizes. The S Bazooka is about the same size as the M Solo, the M Bazooka the same size as the L Solo, and the L Bazooka is BIG.

Induna Kayaking X-fest 2012

The Induna White Water Kayaking X-fest, 24 March 2012, has past, but the unforgettable memories and long-term impact it made will stick like a flag on the North Pole. Kayaking in South Africa has left the runway and takes to the sky, a destination unknown – my guess: Mars. Although the racing was super hot, the friendship and camaraderie shown amongst all was extraordinary. Big

names in South African Kayaking came to compete, but it was a day full of surprises…

The Pro Kayakers had to negotiate three different rapids in the format of individual time trials, to determine a top 12 leader board.

Rapid 1: Jeff’s rapid. A notorious rapid, with a massive hole at the bottom with the tendency to dish out hidings to the shameful and brave alike.

Rapid 2: Lock stock and two smoking barrels. A narrow creeking rapid with a 1 m lateral drop as an entry, a powerful eddy (still standing or up-moving water) on the right that throws you off course and off balance and two holes (washing machines) ready to devour the smallest of mistakes.

Rapid 3: The infamous “Siphon falls”. A 4 m waterfall with a hole at the bottom with the words “AVOID, AVOID!” written all over it. This year the hole was forgiving…to most…

The leader board had no surprises, but this all changed when kayakers had to race 2 by 2 in an event called dual eliminator, whereby the looser falls out. This

heart throbbing, nail biting, plot thickening and fun to watch elimination, down “Lock stock and two smoking barrels”, saw some of the race favourites fall to the hands of younger, eager and more hungry racers.  The final saw the top 3 fighting like wounded lions.  To the roar of the crowd, the youngster Marius Gerryts kicked the two old racers out of the pride as he claimed the victory and honours.  The Ladies were dominated by Tammy Muir, with no measure of luck as she swept the field clean on every occasion.

Afterwards all kayakers went to a calmer stretch of river to cheer the beginners and intermediates on as they raced, in exactly the same format, to be crowned the upcoming stars of kayaking in South Africa.

This unforgettable event will be celebrated as kayakers, young and old, will socially meet-up in rivers all across South Africa, in

search for the ultimate thrill.

Hold on to your toggle, cause this year there is space for beginners and intermediate kayakers at the Induna kayaking X-fest.

This will happen on the commercial stretch of the Sabie River on grade 2 rapids. Think you are better than this? Remember racing and running a river are 2 different things.

How will it work?

You will be dropped off at Hazyview Cabanas. The first race will be from “Dog’s Leg” to the end of “Long drop” We will all casually paddle through the next pool towards our stand-off rapid “Lions Rock” previously AKA “Devils Knuckles”. This will give us a leader board which will compete in a dual eliminator. 2 race together, the loser falls out…

I cannot role?

So you won’t be the only one. It is definitely something that we must work on, but come in any case.

I do not have a kayak?

You can borrow/hire from us. There is also the option to try it in a sit-on-top (T&C apply – maybe you will be time gapped) Bring whatever you got, we’ll try and make rule’s to determine the best paddler on the day.

Can I do it in an inflatable?

Yes, inflatable kayak is good to go and a croc is also an option (T&C apply – maybe you will be time gapped) There is also the option to hire a croc, if necessary.

When and where?

14:30 we will drive from Induna Adventures towards Hazyview Cabanas.

15:00 the race starts!

The race starts after the Pro-Kayak race, so you are welcome to spectate that first. And I am sure a lot of the Pro-kayakers will cheer and support.

How do you enter?

Friday:                  6:00 at Induna Campsite

Saturday:             7:00-8:00 at Induna Campsite

8:00-14:00 at Induna Adventure Center
